HyperTech Chip Specs

Hey maybe this doesnt need its own thread, but i cant seem to find out much of anything about specs, my truck has a Hypertech chip and 160degree thermostat combo, amd i was told by the owenr it was for gas mileage, idk... but i cant find out much about specs.. does anyone know about these chips? how much gains on hp or torque i am getting? I knowit basically retards my timing but still produces more hp.. thanks

My truck is an '89 Silverado, 5.7.

I have a Hypertech chip on my 93 5.7 F/S GMC the only way that I can feel it kick in is when im running super unleaded gas now im running a 160' thermostat so I would say you have a RV chip on it. I forgot what gains it was but like I said use super gas plus if you add some power pulleys it will wake that engine up I know the pulleys did more than the chip.

Awesome! I havent really 'hotrodded' it yet, i did power brake it once, but i dont have any point of reference for power! the chip was installed already when i got the truck.. my main concern is mpg, and it seems to do pretty good, to be a 350 i think. Why do you say i might have an RV chip?

Because of the 160 stat I think it also called themo chip I know it's the middle chip that they sell for our trucks. I have made 17.8 mpg on the hwy on my truck and it's ext-cab with a lot of extras leathers seats, 10" wheels and so on oh then my big butt. He! He!

can anyone here show me proof that a lower temp is going to lower fuel consuption and or raise engine power of a noticable differance?? the math and physics does not carry enough to prove this. the engine needs the heat for a proper burn. if you start to lower this, she will not fire like she is intended to.

I know if I had a 195 stat on a hot day over here in traffic my truck would over heat thats why I think they say replace stat with a colder one if you run that type of chip.

Lex, I'm not saying your a tell a lie about your MPG but I've owned several Chevy's and known plenty of guys that have 350c.i.'s and have never had over 16MPG in the city. Now the best I've gotten on the highway is 17MPG. Maybe when your filling the tank back up your not REALLY filling it all the way up, thus giving you an inaccurate reading. If I don't fill it all the way it will make almost a 1.5-2MPG difference. But I have the Hypertech chip with the 160 thermo and only can tell a difference when climbing from 20-60MPH. I did notice that the shifting got softer when I installed it, don't know why really. I do need to put in the better pulley's.

a 195 is a factory replacement for a 350. in the years that i have owned chevy products, i have never had one overheat in heavy traffic. had dodge over heat once but i rolled my windows down and cut the ac off. temp went back down and i was on my way.
