| help me spend my $ 97 chevy 1500. has a worn out 5.0. gonna put a new 5.7 in it. i want it to have some get up and go. im only spending 5 grand . $2500 for the moter and shipping. throw some ideas at me and tell me how to spend this other 2500. ive been told computer upgrades and injecter upgrades. im not really into this new school stuff , computers and whatnot. and i dont want a check engine light staying on. any ideas or links would be great. thanks . |

| yeah i know it would but that wouldnt leave me any money to do upgrades to get the full benefit of the 383. im kinda set on the 350. thanks man. |

| if you dont feel like dealing with the computers, go with the carb setup. it will be alot cheaper versus the new ecm and sensors and such that you will need. yes, it is a little more. what numbers are you wanting exactly?? maybe we can help you a little more if we knew. |

| i want to stay with the computer . i just want to know what all do i need to buy to make this truck run strong with the 5.7. i havent a clue where to begin except buying the motor. lol i guess i want someone to hand me the info on a silver platter. i mean , what would you do if you had this truck and 5 grand to spend? |

| if the tranny was still very strong, i would go to a junkyard and yank out a new ecm and a good 350. take it to a local machine shop and have them go through it and replace the the crank and rods and bore it out. if you can get the block and ecm for under a grand, and drop another thousand at the machine shop, you can probably get out of that with under 3 grand. there is your motor with a fresh rebuild and stroked. with the motor out at the shop, you could put a small cam in that would still run off the ecm with no problems. but that is just my opinion and what i might do given the chance and or money. |
