Ait intake kits

I put this on the gmc side, thought I would ask the chevy side. I have a 2008 GMC 5.3L Z71 4X4 p/u. Has anyone put on a air intake kit, cold air, ram air, whatever, and if so how much did it help HP wise.

ive got some graphs and such on test done to a sbc at the house using the cold air intake and a ram setup. if i think about it tonight, ill try and scan them on here so you can look at them yourself. the cold air intake that people advertise does not produce a decent enough power gain to validate the money spent. however, the ram setup produced half decent numbers throughout the rpm range. would i buy one?? i have a K&N filter on my truck and it seems to do pretty good but would not buy a cold air intake.

I have a K&N FIPK and i noticed nothing, just noisier, although the stock intake is pretty short anyways on my rig... a ram air setup would be better, eventually i`m, going to get a cowl hood and install a ram air port for my system...

Thanks for the imput. I would like to see the graphs you have, that would help. I have a K&N filter on my truck now, but when it shifts from 1st to second my RPM's drop from 3700 to 2200 and the truck can't keep up, it bogs down then at about 3100 the power comes back in. I put a hyper-tech programer in but not enough difference to recomened it to anyone. Very disappointed $300 wasted. Don't want to make the same mistake twice. Any other ideas for HP without spending an arm and a nut. 2008 5.3L.

Flowmaster 40 series mufflers give some power and a good sound. Maybe some hugger style headers. You have the programmer... but have you taking it in to have it custom tuned? That may wake up the programmer some. As GMC always says get some power pulleys. He swears by them!! Plus gas is cheaper these days run super all the time. My 92 Z71 5.7 runs like poo off regular but when I pump the good stuff in she wakes up a bit. Get a high flow cat. If your truck was older I'd say get rid of it all together but you need it on that truck so just get a high flow one. They may be alittle more on the pricey side but hey man with today's models there isn't really anything cheap about them right!! But seriously a custom tuned ECM may give you programmer some more room to play. If you find alittle bit off money maybe upgrade injectors. An air intake system isn't really gonna boost hp at all unless it's a true cold air intake but it is gonna sound cool.

Didn't know it could be custom tuned. Who does that and what do they do.
