Won't go into 4WD

My 94 S15 will only on into 4WD if the key is in the ACC position. If the key is in the Start position the lights on the 4wd switch flash showing the system is working but it will not go into 4WD. Any help will be appreciated.

Sounds like a bad connection of some sort. Or something is grounding out.

do you mean the run position not the start because it will not activate while the starter is turning

not run. if i remember right, 94 had a selection that you turned the key backwards to. are you in park or neutral when you are putting it into 4wd??
