Question Simple question....Over-rev paint?

I just had a rebuilt 5.7 tbi put in my 81 Silverado. When I went to pick it up the guy said that there is a special paint on the crank so he will know if I over-rev it...and special seals to know if it gets hot. The engine comes with a 50,000 mile warranty. I was just wondering is there such a paint/seals? Just trying to make sure he's not makin an excuse ahead of time incase it blows up! lol

I don't know of special paint to check for over revving, but IIRC they do have freeze plugs that will melt if the motor is over heated...

I never heard of any special paint either, besides if he did paint the crank as he claims what would that do to the bearings?

I will have to agree with these guys, something does not sound right.... I have heard of paint that can withstand some heavy heavy heat... but not one that will indicate over reving....

I agree with you as well about the freeze plugs but maybe by the color of the crank would show if it was dogged meaning the heat will cause the medal to change colors.

Welcome to the forum
Did he do the rebuild or a remanufacturer? If it was a outside source look on the paperwork for a contact and inquire about what he told you. I know they coat cell phones and electronics to indicate if they have been dropped into water. There might be something on the rods to indicate higher temps from high revs but I doubt it
Please post back and let us know if there is such a thing!
