Transfer Case not engaging

1995 K2500 Chevy 5.7L 5 speed

Just noticed today that my transfer case was not engaging. The lights on the floor shift would not illuminate and case not engaging.

I found a place for a fuse but no fuse was there and there is no female plug for a fuse...I do not think they was ever a fuse in there. Number 2 fuse hole on the fuse box on driver side of dash.

Could a fuse be inline?

Also correct me if I am wrong. When one shifts the transfer case lever that closes a circuit at the TC switch to activate the front drivelines at the dfferential. Am I correct on this? Ithink that's the way it works.

Anyway I think I either have:

1. Blown Fuse
or
2. Bad transfer case switch

What do you guys think? Any information woud be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Kindly

Welcome to the forum
Did you just get the truck? yes you are thinking correctly, the switch is actually on the top of the tranny. I believe there should be a 25 amp fuse in the 4wd slot, Basically you need to check for power thru the system, ususlly its's either the switch or the thermister at the front

Fuse position 25 is for the front axle and 4wd indicator lights. Leo is correct it takes a 25 amp fuse. Hope that is the problem. On my truck it was moisture that got in the connector for the front actuator that caused my fuse to blow. The moisture doesn't have to come from deep water it could be condensation from temp shange.

I've own the truck for almost a year and this is the first trouble I have had with the 4wd. We've just had extreme weather changes here in eastern kentucky. Rained about 3 inches now ice and snow, so condensation may be the problem. I will look at that fuse first..then start running continuity checks through the circuit. Thanks guys!

For any one who has a future problem and need this thread for a reference I found out the following:::

There is a switch on the transfer case that sends power on the light blue wire to the front axle actuator. Once the front axle is locked in, the actuator sends power on the black/white wire to the indicator lamp. Check to see if you have power at the switch on the transfer case, Brown wire should have power with key on, Light Blue wire should have power once you shift into one of the 4wd ranges.

Fuse was good - It's number 24 which reads 4wd. Yesterday I never got past Number 2 since it said Transfer Case but there was NO fuse there. Anyway I have power to the transfer case switch but not any going to the front driveline actuator. I need the switch at the transfer case. Looks easy to fix except it's kind of hard to get to.
