Removing the Cigarette lighter housing

1992 Chevy 2500

I have been trying for a **** hour to get this thing out, i have disconnected the wire plug, i just cannot get this thing out....any tips or tricks?

The cigarette lighter is located in a tray that drops down out of the dash.

Driving me nuts!

it has two pieces that have to be pushed in from the backside. it is part or the outside housing that has been cut and pushed out to act as a lock. pull the tray, push in on the tabs and out she comes through the front.

so i have to take off the drop down tray to get it out then....? I have been just sticking my fingers behind the housing(through the ash tray hole) and trying to push it out that way....

it is easier, some housings snap in with locks as brad explained, and some the back piece is screwed onto the front piece

if you are really good, that whole piece is just thin tin. you might be able to squeeze that bezel together with some channel locks to where it can be pushed out the back. disconnect it and pull the wires back through the hole to make the connection to the new lighter. then, push the new lighter back into the hole.
