1989 chevy 1ton 454

need help i have a 1989 chevy 454 1ton the evertime i put it in 4x4 it sounds like it was engaged but wasnt..sooo i started checking traced the wires down found the wires burned were the go down from the from the relay to the aculator to the front axel i put on wires on put new switch from the wire to the aculaor to the senser on the tranny its a to prong has a ball on back but not getting any power from there at all so i ran i hot wire with a toggle switch to the aculater that engages the 4x4 it worked butttttttt when i start to drive it it seems to be locking up? cant get over 5 miles an hour but runs fine when it disengaes any other reason i aint getting any power from the tranny to the front axel?

there is a switch on the top of the trans fer case that engages the front axle when 4x4 is selected. i assume that you have a munually shifted transfer case.

Are you pulling it towards the seat for 4WD/H? The switch will work and the 4wd indicator light should light, is that happening?

yeah the indicator ight lights up and i did have itr in 4h when driving? there another wire on the front axel does it have anything to do with it?

That should be the return for the light activation, when you had the actuator out did you check the movement of the lever inside the axle, if you push it in the light should light, and turning the wheel should rotate the driveshaft. what is happening when you say it won't go over 5mph? high rpm? can you feel the tranny shift? I asked about the lever position in case someone messed with it

it sounds like its dragging the wheels ok and another thing i noticed is that when i do put it in to 4wd for that short timewhen i park the truck the next morning there was a big pile of tranny fluid under it like some thing was putiing out to much pressure sounds dumb huh? i have different size tires on the front is that i big big deal or not? np high rpm

That is very big deal, you could grenade the tranfercase that way.

yea, your front wheels would be turning at a different speed from the back.
