| 350 motor Hey guys, A while back i changed my oil in my blazer and come to find out about a month or two later it was empty... almost anyways idk what happen to the oil or anything what do i do now? would it be best just get a used motor from junk yard or have it rebuilt? It wil run and everything but when i slightly rev it up it will rattle sounds like bearings of some kind , samething going up a hill , just sounds like its about to lay down , need advice , rebuilt it or trash it and find a used motor? what about my piston walls would they be messed up or what? used motor around $ 500~ rebuild $ 280 ~

| you could be getting pistion slap or conectioning rod bearing on your crank. there is problems with both rebuil and buying used doing a rebuil you could fix the problem and i new one could pop up if you don't check and change everything and if you buy a used one it could be f up unless you hear it run in a truck then it is better, i would do a compression test and see what it is and if it good then do a full rebuil new bearings new pistions the full deal then you know it is all new and nothing can go wrong. that is just what i would do |

| If you can rebuild it for $500 parts and labor do it it's dirt cheap! A mr goodwrench is about $1800 for a plain jane

| the using oil part you could be getting blow by, you could have a valve seal gone and oil is leaking down into your cylinder. thoes are the two things i could think of. but ya if you can rebuild it for $500 bucks do it up just make sure to check all your bearings lol my freind had so truble not checking the bearings rebuilt a motor and didn't check his crank bearings and put the motor back together and 10 miles later he had it back apart lol |

| for just under 3000 you can get a 400 horse 350 long block from year one......(i havent heard how reliable the motors are, but the t.v show horsepower, and musclecar uses them, so Im guessing they are okay.) But, if you are going to rebuild, you could pull a head and look at the cylinder walls, and then decide wether to get a used and rebuild it... |
