1984 Silverado ECM?

Hello all! I'm new here. I'll post up an intro in a few minutes, but I need to get some info as fast as I can, so I wanted to post my problemn first.

I know there is some kind of ECM behind the glove box on my 1984 Chevy Silverado, because it has gone bad on me before. I special ordered it for about $200. It appears that less than a year later, it has gone bad on me again. I know it's not the module, as I has swapped modules and even entire distributors. The only thing that will make it fire, is that stupid box.

I have heard of wiring past the box. Exactly how is that done? Can anyone help me out with that?

Thanks for any info!

Alan

where did you get it , did it have a guarantee ,if not you might try junk yard or ebay , as far as rewiring ,it might be done but do to all the sensors very very hard , if yours is carb you could wind up with points or early electronic ignition all this is far far above my head . try a INTERNET search .

Tried the search. Then after finding nothing, I searched for truck forums.

It is a carb'd truck.

I didn't know they had an ECM either, until it quit the first time. It's not that complicated, just a few wires in and out. I believe it's more of a spark knock controller, but there are resistors and diodes on a circuit board inside and one of them must be the + to the distributor.
I have also considered trying to fix it. I may still give that a shot, but I'd rather just be able to get rid of it.
