skintdeuce is on a distinguished road
I put a noisy on a SB350 in a jeep and I loved it. Plus it eliminates chain stretch.

I like gear drives, but they are heavy and can take away some power. Lots of vibration is transfered into the crank and cam. These high frequency vibrations may or may not cause any real troubles, but I like and prefer a real double roller chain for my decent engines, and wont run anything but the Jesel belt drives on my killer engines.

I do like the sound of the gears though. Kind of old school, and has a real cool factor.

Gear drives work great from a reliability standpoint, and they sound cool, but on any engine with computer controls they will play havoc with knock sensors.

The actual effects would be to much to type. In a nut shell; the sounds, vibrations and "harmonics" cause by gear to gear meshing cause the sensors to "feel" an incorrect signal. This causes the computer to pull timing be cause it believes the engine is pinging.

On your 98', a gear to gear drive will cause you a lot of headaches. Stick to a nice double roller set.
