upon second look at the picture(I didn't crawl under it.... we have 4 inches of mud) It does have bolt holes on back...... huh..... still a wierd shaped diff.... and I would say that the drunk/stoner cousin of mine lied.... wonder if the front diff is a 60 then... If not, I do know where a 1985 k30 with full drivetrain(minus 454) is..... that would be a good donor for solid axles ehh?

I found a 97 dodge that had been laid on its side yesterday, It has 78,000 on the ticker, and a cummins diesel with a 5 speed.... what do ya'll think? do I fork out for the cummins or go with the d Max? they are within 300 dollars of each other, and I get the whole truck on both of them...... and I picked up a 1985 chevy k30 that the kid had rolled, and the axles are in good shape.... so the axles under the truck are goners, and getting replaced....

beware of diesels that have laid over. everyone that i have worked on thats laid over has ALWAYS had future problems. i wouldnt take it no matter the price. last cummins that i had that was laid over costed 8 grand to rebuild.

While I cant see enough of that rear axle to determine which one it is, I can say without a doubt that it is not a ford 9 inch. The axle has bolts out back, and the diff does not drop in like a complete unit like a 9 inch would. This is an Eaton rear axle, and could have some potential for restoration types. Swap that out for a 1 ton 14B and you will be fine.
Take a pic of the front axle, (primarilly the knuckle and the diff cover) and I will tell you what you have up front.
Beware of anything that you buy in the salvage yard or anywhere for that matter.
Since the D60F is so desirable, it is not uncommon to see a vehicle bought for parts and sold with less desireable items.

I bought a 1985 chevy k30 for 200, and it has the original axles in it. I bought it from farmer a few miles away, and he parked it after the motor went in it. It has a 4 speed and a cracked block on the 454

97 huh, good ole 12valve, god thats nice, how bad was the body, i seriously do not know about the roll over deal on the motor, i dont put much stock in the whole, motor being bad if it was rolled... if this was true, than OTR truck drivers and salvage companies wouldnt dish out big money for a wrecked truck just for the motor... i would have to go for the cummins and hack it, just have someone check it over, i hope you get this thread in time... the only thing i would love to see more than a dmax in an old truck like that is a 12valve CUMMINS!!!!!!
