sold 4 trucks to buy one(wife said I hd to many)

so my cousin just sold me a 1972 K20, that has a 6 inch lift and worn out 35's. He has upgraded the axles, with a front D60 and a ford nine inch with an eaton electric locker in the rear. I got it for 300 dollars, due to the family status, and the fact that he blew up the motor a year ago..... so Im considering my options. What do ya'll suggest? Ive been considering a 6.6 duramax/allison from a wrecked truck.....Im wanting custom, and power, and not too worried about the cost

I suggest a rebuild of the existing with a high end rebuild of the heads, flow tested triple cut valves. line hone the crack and balance it wieght and balance the pistons and rods that you choose to replace the existing ones. then talk with the bulder for thr correct correct type intake and cfm carb for either high end or low end for you application then good free flowing tunded headers 3" exhaust turbo mufflers but after then must power added you will break the transmission then the rear end. Its great fun but when you build and drive hard something going to break

I think a duramax/allison swap would be sweet!

If the truck recieves a D60 front axle, why in the heak is the truck gonna get a punny 9 inch rear axle?
How are you gonna make the rear 8 lugs to match the front?

No mud, I think you should give me your truck for parts for mine...... but then, I too may have to walk home... so, nevermind

and 75, the axles were in the truck when I got it. He put upgraded 30 spline axles shafts in the rear, with 4.56 gearing. He said it cost him 2500 in parts for the rear, and he put new gearing in the front to match, and chromoly shafts..... I think that as soon as the motor(whichever I decide to do,) I have a 14 bolt that may just find a home in the back end

And I would love to rebuild the motor, as that would be "cheaper" but the piston shoved a hole in the block on #3....apparently, the 402 (hopped up 396) bb didn't like 5000 rpm.....

He upgraded a ford 9 inch rear to 30 spline?
A truck axle would have had a semi float 9 inch with 31 spline axles. How was a smaller axle shaft an upgrade?
This 5 lug axle will still not match the front. Do you have different wheels for the front and rear?
Got any pics?

396 huh? Time to step up to real cubes. Ditch the boat anchor 396 and build a 454.

I'll get some pictures, as soon as I can find the camera. and Im not sure on the spline count, as he was just tellin me off of his memory,(its not good) I haven't gone and picked it up yet, hoping too tommorow. and I'll climb under it and check to see if it is indeed a 9 inch. Im not sure. What would this truck have come with from factory? and I know that the rims are the same, as he just put the factor 7.00r16 back on it. He wanted to keep the white spokes he had. and given he is a drunk/meth user, he might be filling me full of **** on all the axle upgrades. But I do know that it is a 72 k20...... and it has a 6 inch lift. Its the model of truck that I have always wanted. yeah, I bought a truck I don't know much about....go ahead and haze if you feel its neccisary
