mohawkman is on a distinguished road
Hello again, just thought I'd give an update here. I had the truck towed to a shop. Turned out the problem was the distributor. He changed a faulty coolant temperature switch and that got the truck starting by itself, but it died on him during a test drive. After he got it back to the shop, he started checking/wiggling wires. He found one that was grounded and changed it, but apparently that had no bearing on the problem. Then he shined some kind of light on the injectors to see if they were pulsing/spraying and found no pulse, lol. Apparently this made sense to him, cuz he ordered a new distributor for it and put it in and that seemed to do the trick.

in case you are wondering, there is a ignition control module in the distributor that controls the injectors. evidently, it was malfunctioning.
