| I know that no one wants to be a pesimist but this really sounds like the only explanation, like i said before the build up on your oil filler cap is condensation, like the kind that you get after oh, 3000 miles, humidity changes, weather changes, or an internal coolant leak that is causing condensation to build up faster than it can be vented out of the crankcase... will anyone bite on that theory for a minute, we cant see the leak, we have a know condensation buildup,..... is it normally like this, every dodge i work on this is normal...... your start up issues are caused by the coolant that is leaking into the cylinders after you shut it off, and the sludge in your oil is probably a mixture of coolant residue, oil, and combustion residue that is seeping into your block, after running the motor 2 different ways to detect the same problem and why 1 as coolant is leaking into the cylinders, the combustion process heats the water in the coolant to boiling temps and it escapes through your exhaust, meanwhile the coolant is actually being burnt. 2 as coolant leaks into the engine crankcase it no longer has the spark to ignite it which causes coolant residue to gather in the oil, mean while the water which is still being heated past boiling point still manages to escape, partially, through the pcv valve the rest of the coolant and water is collecting on your oil filler cap

| The only vehicles I have seen with condensation problems are ones that only make short trips not allowing the engine to get to operating temp so the moisture builds up instead of boiling off and disapating.

good deal, now we got some help, sounds like that would be a safe conjecture, alot of the dodges i work on come from TOWNSpeople, that really dont have to do more than walk down the street to work(thats me) but my truck runs good...NOW ![]()

| other guy here.., my Yukon has the 4.8 vortex, not sure if thats a dry intake or not. I'm taking it to the shop for test on Friday. In addition to loosing half gallon coolant monthly, she's burning a good bit of oil too! I saw something that said these engines can burn a quart every 2k miles!? I got 90k on her. I also notice as my oil gets to say 4k miles old, she starts to tick real loud on cold start up. I let it idle for 2-3 minutes than ticking stops. I think this is a lifter starving for oil? after oil change, she's fine... |

| '02 Yukon Slow coolant loss. GM TSB 06-06-01-019B refers to Castech heads. Some evidently have porosity problems around oil drain holes. #1 on the picture is the casting mark and $2 is an oil drain hole. I think you can click on the thumbnail to get a bigger view. Hope this is helpful. Unlikely head problem but possible. I guess a slow leak is better than a fast one.... Good luck |
