Bradrhale: Hopefully this thread will shed some light for others in the future that have ABS problems (Kelsey-Hayes 4WAL).

One last thing I forgot to mention. After work is performed on the ABS system, some faults are "hard" faults and need to be cleared either manually or by an ABS reader. It took me a few minutes (sometimes my light bulb is very dim) yesterday to realize that the codes that I was reading after completing the work were hard faults. Once I cleared the codes, all was well in the ABS world.

Crabtruck: When I get home today, I will take some pictures of the connectors and post them here. Maybe that will also help others in the future.

crabtruck: I don't believe you were making stuff up as you went along. You pointed me in the right direction. That stuff you can't make up.

As promised a few photos of the vehicle you are helping save, the brake switch, the ABS connector, and the CC connector...

What a clean looking truck - sure it's a 92 not an 08 ?
Thanks for these pic, I'll add to my collection.
That's black plug/red seal = CC and blue plug/white seal = ABS 4wal ?

Black plug/red seal = ABS. Blue plug/white seal = CC.

crabtruck: I may have spoken too soon about the ABS. It appears that I have other problems with it.

I replaced my lower ball joints and passenger side CV axle on Friday. While dismanteling virtually the entire front end, I decided to do inspections on everything that was being removed (brake pads, calipers, tie rod ends, hub assembly, steering knuckle, etc.). I found most everything here was worn but not to a point where I feel it needs to be replaced yet. I did notice however that the pads needed replaced. Not that they were badly worn, but they were cracked and pieces of the surface missing (all 4 of them).

While trying to remove the calipers, I was using a C-clamp to get the pistons collapsed (took some oil out of the master cylinder and left the cover off). My C-clamp would not collapse either side piston. It acted like there were check valves in the system not allowing fluid to flow back to the master cylinder. I didn't understand what was going on at that point. So, in order to get the pistons collapsed, I opened the bleed valve at the pistons and collapsed them that way.

Saturday, I went to NAPA (to return the old CV axle) and decided to pick up some new pads (I got the ceramic pads, middle of the road ceramic pads that NAPA sells). While I was cleaning out the calipers, I noticed a strange smell on both sides. It smelled like something had been burned.

Installed them Saturday, bled the system (at each wheel, started with the RR, then LR, then RF, then LF) and the Blazer stayed parked in the driveway until Sunday.

On Sunday, decided to take it to run some errands. The Blazer acted like something was holding it back while driving. The transmission didn't shift into overdrive and the rpm's stayed higher than normal. Got down the road about 5 miles and started smelling something burning. I immediately knew what that smell was from the previous day. I stopped the Blazer and got out and both front tires had smoke coming out from the fender wells. The wheels were extremely hot to the touch. I knew by looking at it, the front brakes were partially engaged (I say partially because I still had some brake pedal).

Let it cool down for a few minutes and then took it back home. I found that the front brakes were partially engaged. Once again, I couldn't collapse either side pistons.

Out of blind luck, I disconnected the 2 pin connector on the ABS and nothing changed. When I disconnected the 10 pin connector on the ABS, the front brakes backed off. So, it appears that the ABS was telling the front brakes to engage. Although I never heard the ABS motor pick up.

I don't have any trouble codes on the ABS nor do I have an ABS light. The ABS motor does pick up for about a second when I put the jumper in to retrieve the codes.

Currently, I have the ABS electrically disconnected so I can drive the Blazer to work.

Got any ideas?
