vortec or non vortec? Hey guys,I have been looking for a truck to replace my current 1998 4.3 with 237000 miles, it has been a good truck, anyway I came accross a 1994 5.7 with 66000 miles. Is there any advantage to the newer vortec, or any typical problems with the 1994 trucks? Thanks

I am an orig owner of a 94 5.7 k1500 w/ 150k+miles. So far so good LOL. Search the forum for 94's and see what pops up, there's been chatter but I think it's a decent truck. Way to late to return it anyway.

The usual leaking intake manifold gaskets, there may not be many miles on the engine but that's plenty of years for the dexcool to eat up the gaskets. If you can run the engine listen for lifter tap if not check the oil cap for milky white stuff. If there bad with the engine out there easy to replace but there's no tellin how long it could have been run like that, the bearings could be wiped out. Also a computer change over 94's engine should be OBD 1 and 98's truck should be OBD 2.

They started using dexcool in 95. Also blocks that are 88 and up use a roller cam and lifter set.
