You should be able to tell what is leaking by smell, brake and gear oil have there own distinctive smell

Well...can anyone tell me what size socket I need to remove that bolt so I can pull out that pin and C clamp?

Friend said to use a 1/4 six sided socket, seems too small. Tried an open end wrench.....1/4 too small and 5/16 too big.

I tried a 12 point 5/16 and that seemed to be pretty snug.

Never been inside a differential before but something tells me I will get heartburn if I round off that bolt.

7 or 8mm is between a 1/4 and 5/16. what bolt are you refering to??
