Sure it is, I do not think 305 was born yet either in 73. Still would have had to convert the ingition voltage from the ignition switch. Points and condensor would use 6-8 Volts and HEI or electronic iginition uses 12 volts. I'd imagine alot of these youngsters on here don't know that. Although you would get 12 Volts out of the ignition, it would be reduced to the coil or distributor to 6-8 volts so that your points would not be prematurely burned up. I think 74 was when HEI started being put into GM cars, not sure all were converted yet at that time though.

only reason i was asking about ignition is that it seems out of place to have high dollar high end plug wires with a stock ignition system. sure they transfer better but what good are they if they carry a little bitty charge.

Yeah you are right brad. I assumed he had a wire burning problem like I did at one time. At that time way back then, I didn't think just to reroute the wires and was frustrated with burning up wires. Even high end ignition systems I think most people stay away from solid wires these days.

Which plug wires to use?? Didn't want to start a new thread. Sorry about hi******* this one!! I am needing advice on plug wires for my 77 Chevy 350 with stock exhaust manifolds. I really don't want to use the heat shields when I put the engine back in the truck. Does anyone make 90's for distibutor and straights that are very heat tolerant for the plugs. I want over the valve cover wires. Or, should I really consider putting the heat shields back on the engine? I looked at Jeggs and could only find plug 90's. Maybe didn't look hard enough. Links to wires appreciated. Will start my own search but would really like to hear from the voices of experience. All companies tell us how great their wires are. Thanks

Yep, either use the heat shields and carbon core wires, or no heat shields and use solid core wires, and a noise filter in your stereo system if you have one.
