Well fellow support team !!! I got the install done today. Well good enough, still have to tighten the 8 crossmember bolts and put the grease zerts in the U jonits and grease them some more. Took it for a ride and I guess I am not the tranny guy I used to be. Been over 18 years since I did one and something isn't quite right. I am sure I will figure it out, but it probably means the pan has to come off. It shifts fine after I adjusted the Vacuum Modulator since it was doing late hard shifts at first. Got that resolved easy enough. Problem is, goes into reverse very hard, and when coming to a complete stop, it will not downshift to 1st. It takes off in 2nd. So I have to manually put it in 1st then its fine. Seems the problem is intermittant too which is very strange. Could even be a stuck governor valve maybe which I'd be happy to find out that was it. I will keep you all updated, but not in any hurry now that is can be moved on its own power. The 454 runs awesome. Torquey but a sled otherwise. What can I expect for a carbed smogger motor? Now that I got to drive the truck for the first time, I know it needs some rear brake work done and front suspension is shot. Terrible front end as I suspected. Its all over the place and every bump seems to hit very hard and rattle the whole truck. It all good though. I expected to have some issues with it. And when its all replaced it will be like new again. Still pleased with the $100 purchase. Get the front end and brake work done then start looking for some decent heads, mild cam, and intake. Just can't have a 454 being a sled. Another ongoing work in progress project.

how much grease did you put on the check balls in the valve body (if you used any) might just be taking awhile to thin out the grease and get the balls moving freely..

None, Trans was upside down when I installed the vb, so no need. However, the ATSG manual told me to leave out CB#5 saying it was not needed so I did. I am kinda hoping the problem is something of that nature though and it will correct itself. I have not looked at my T400 troubleshooting flowchart yet, but I am hoping it could be a hanging up gov valve, or maybe a tiny spec of crud on a valve or as you mentioned thick grease on the valves that needs to melt down and it might fix itself. And I know something is not right with reverse. Man it goes in hard into reverse. Whiplash from Park to Rev, and the idle is not to high. Makes me wonder if I forgot a servo spring. Highly unlikley. This was an experimental job anyway. I will look at the flow chart and if reverse and downshift have somethnig to do with intermediate clutches, then I will know the experimental center support piston was not a good idea. Otherwise it works wonderful. Nice shift points, firm but not harsh shifts. Manual gear selection is right now, no pause or delay, speedometer works and appears to be accurate. I have plenty of suspension and brake work to do before I consider it a reliable driver, so I am fine with it for now and hope it may fix itself with more use.

The trans is working just fine today. So it must have been some heavy transjel lube that I used needed to melt down or the piece of junk haning a valve is now gone. Still has the very harsh reverse though. There is a kit for Harsh reverse, so it must be somewhat common. I hooked up the kickdown solenoid today too, it works fine. Got passing gear now for both 3-2 and 2-1, and even got a 3-1 once on a slow roll. Not sure what the deal was yesterday with it not going into first from a stop but it has all day today consistantly. Oh, and would you believe the cruise control even works? I was shocked.
