NO! Acetone is corrosive and eats rubber. Its also got a BTU content that is much lower then gasoline. Do not use it as fuel.

IMO the thing that makes the biggest increase in fuel economy is your right foot. How you drive will make or break any modification.

acetone? just pray you have the right kind of rubber if you have in the gaslines...... I have seen the stuff eat rubber before......... but, In theory, it might work. as to that, I wonder if a small amount of denatured alchohol would work the same way.... It evaporates faster than acetone..... that may be a problem though, It might go too fast. and, It wont eat rubber.... we used it at the paint shop to clean off over spray.

Nail on the head there merlin. When I am driving conservative I expect good, when I am in it and making good time, I am not expecting real good mpg. You are going to pay to make up time while driving.

As far as K&N is concerned a number of people have claimed problems, and a number claim they are great. In my own research and use I have never found any actual problems with them. Rumors of there claimed damage of MAF sensors always turn up after someone cleans the filter. The reason is, when cleaned people have a tendency to over oil them and the excess is sucked into the intake. User error.

Absolutely. If I drive like a grandpa I can eek 23MPG out of the Silverado and 18mpg out of the Suburban, but my normal driving averages are 18mpg and 15mpg respectively.

^^^ I done that once.... and after I got it cleaned up, I still got bad mileage and swapped to a acdelco filter, and It didn't do anything to help, So back in went the k&n and my mileage went back up(minorly.....) until I got my new exhaust on, and it helped a bit...... till my valves started to go bad....(which I ought to replace one of these days.

i guess nobody noticed the part about him driving around DFW?? bad traffic. that has alot to do with it right there. assuming that he has a 26 gallon tank, mileage is not that bad. i would be proud to get that out of my 99.

Very true. If he is getting that on the LBJ, then he is doing great imo with a 26gal tank.
