well guys i went and took a look at the knock sen... and there was no wires coming off of it. so i figured that was the problem!!!! took me a min to find the dang plug-in. the starter looks pretty new compaired to how dirty the underneeth is and its fairly clean. so im guessing when they changed it they unplugged the knock sen. and got the wires all mixed up, took me a while to find it and i had to cut the wire and all that... but i got it all back together and took her for a lil ride.....no rattle, noise, nothing no matter how mush i "MASH ON IT"(thats for u hot rod)!!! And it seems to be running ALOT better. one other question..the guy that pulled the code said that when the light comes on the computer changes(or something) to do whatever it does, but he mentioned that the air/fuel ratio changes!! is that true? if so...will this effect my MPG and HP?

when the light is on, the ecm recognizes a problem. the code needs to be cleared so that the computer may reconfigure and relearn. easy way to do this is by undoing the battery cables for the length of a good cold beverage and hook them back up.

WIth it dsconnected long enough, it should lose any codes it has in storage. OBD ll handheld code readers are really not that much these. With that, you can read and erase codes. I use and Actron CP9145 that I got on sale at Pep Boys for $89.95. Came with a nice carry case, the CD for the computer with all the codes explained etc. Not the best, but it works great and for the money I am satisfied.

Doh I am getting good at assuming and confusing these posts. You are probably not a OBD ll system. OBD 1.

Right, I don't even use the disk. Don't need it. But it is a good source of info to read and study. Mine will give the code and explain the code or tell what it is. Like the code #, then says lean misfire, or multiple cylinder misfire, or cyl 3 misfire, O2 senosr laft bank, etc There are a bunch. The disk will just give info on what or how to check what can be wrong with each specific code. I looked at the disk when I first got it. never used it since. But, this unit will not work on your truck. Yours is not OBD ll. I did not realize it was not a 96 or newer when I responded. Some models are OBD ll before 96, but GM trucks are not one of them.
