I didn't measure the amount of threads before I took then nut off, so I don't know how much threads should be showing, thats why I need the torque spec.

Fair enough Hotrodpc. Everybody has a different idea on how to do things the correct way. I'm starting to wonder if they tell you to mark everything because the torque specs are not readily available. I would like to help out curt 5.7, but I can't find the correct pinion nut torque specs, and no one else has given any idea on what it should be. I'd be interested in any resource that gives a clear number on what the specs are.

That I agree with. We need to find that for him, since he did not mark it to begin with, therefore he doesn't have your method as an option now.

hard for me to come up with a reply for torque specs. especially something in the form of advice to someone that is not skilled in this area. large eaton and bulldawg gears, usually are about right when the 1" impact stops turning it with about 110 psi. smaller yokes, i tend to put on with a turned up 1/2 impact to a certain point as they are hard to strip out if one knows what they are doing and when to stop.

Maybe someone can offer some tips and advice with this info. It appears to be good info anyway. I have not read all the way through this. It appears you can download the 16 page doc if you register with the site. Dana Ring & Pinion Installation Guide

I found something else too on drivetrain.com too, but it is give specs of preload in inch pounds and I am sure that is not right. I also seen there on another site for a diffreant rear end, there is not a set torque spec other than use the biggest breaker bar you can find and get it tight. Not sure I beleive that either. Do we know what model rear end this is? 10 bolt 8.5 or what?

Automotive Parts Guide for GM 8.5 inch Differentials, Ring & Pinions - Save Money - Drivetrain.com I wonder if this info makes any sense. It has the torque specs, but nothing on the pinion nut itself. I would imagine when he gets his sleeve kit with oversize seal, it should have specific instrucitons and specs.
