Yeah, man, I actually had you in mind when I wrote my reply. Again, with the tire size these "luchbox" lockers can be a bargain, and can survive, so perhaps I was too quick with the draw and should have been more specific. I have busted several lunchbox lockers, and my needs require something a little stronger. Not that these are bad, its just for my tire size and the way I treat my trucks, I need the strongest thing out there. As far as the semi float 14B, it is a pretty strong axle, and a decent upgrade from even a 12 bolt, its just that even these have some issues with axle retention. I am a big fan of full float axle design. Much stronger in both axle strength, and saftey. I have busted axles in the field, and have still been able to drive home thanks to the full floater. Semi float axles do not offer this, and if an axle breaks, it is destined for replacement in the sticks, or has to be towed on a trailer. IN many case upgrading to heavy axles is not reasonable, this I understand, but when the demands require a strong axle, it is best not to consider lockers before the upgrade. I mean if there is ever going to be a need for a larger axle, it would be a waste of money to try to doctor up a little axle. In some cases the small axle works fine though. | |

| Me too, I love full floating axles. Just got to be cautious if you have one and I'm around. Me and buddy one time, had a star bar handy. Another buddy was a prankster all the time. I got even with his ***. Took us about 5 minutes to pull his axles. When he went to work the next morning, he calls me asking for a ride that his tranny just flat quit on him and won't work, then made some wierd clunk noise that sounded real bad when he put it in park to shut the truck. Then I felt bad. Forgot about that, and it could have done some damage. Talk about a prank gone wrong. Lucky for me, no permanent noticable damage. But yep, he though his trans was gone. The axles were on the side of this house. |
