4x4 brake rotor r&r

I just bought a 1995 4x4 Suburban 2500

The previous owner warned me that the rotors were in need of replacing and included the rotors and new pads with the truck. He cautioned me that the 4x4 makes the simple rotor r&r more involved because one has to remove the locking hub.

I've done brake work many times on many different vehicles but never a 2500 4x4.

What am I in for? Any pitfalls or gotchas that you could point out would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

should be the same as i got, have to remove the 36mm nut on the axle, remove your caliper, then remove the hub from the knuckle, (four bolts from behind) may not come off easily, but not too bad, then the studs have to be pressed out, make a good inspection of the hub/bearing assy, then clean her up good, install new rotor, press in studs and reverse of the dissasembly instructions, Its too bad those things don`t have knock of rotors, but the benifit I see is i`ve only seen one of those 2500 warp rotors, unlike the everyone on the road today with knock offs that have warped...

Thanks, Stump!

For pressing out the studs, are you speaking of the lugs or some stud that holds the locking hub on? Is this something that must be done on the vehicle in order to get the rotor off or can I do this with my big bench vise off the vehicle?

yeah press out the lugs, it can be done on the bench, best to use a brass drift on them if you have, to save the threads

Thanks again! I do indeed have a few brass drifts as well as dead-blow hammers. I googled up some pictures of the hubs and your discription makes perfect sense now. I am sure it would have made sense too if I had actually pulled a wheel off and eyeballed it.

Now I just need the 36mm tool. Jeebus that's huge!

I'm just so happy to have a truck again

EDIT: What I meant to say is that your perfect description makes sense to even me now that I've seen the pictures. I didn't mean in any way that your description was flawed.
