Fuel Injectors need replacing...so I am told.

Hi everyone, first time posting. I own a 2002 chevy s10 2.2L 15,800 Miles on it. Recently had a engine light come on, went to Midas, they told I had bad or dirty fuel injectors, so I had them clean it. Light came back on, they suggested replacement. Any other minor steps I can take myself, I am not a mechanic by any means but with good direction and the right tools I am capable of some moderately difficult repairs. I looked online and fuel injectors don't seem terribly expensive, compared to the 500.00 or so Midas wanted to charge me A PIECE, for one injector. So, good injector or a link would be appreciated? How much can I expect to pay in parts or labor? I am thinking about using a mechanic from craigslist since it is much cheaper. good or bad experiences anyone? Thank you. -Quentin

I would deff get another opinion, but if you do end up needing injectors phone bruce @ Fuel Injectors - Diesel Powerstroke Injectors - Bosch Injectors - Siemens, Denso, Rochester Injector Sets - FiveOMotorsport I`ve gotten many from them, great service and fast shipping!

The code stated cylinder misfires on 2 cylinders, can't remember which and the paperwork is outside. I replaced the spark plugs also, who knows. I will wait and see if the code comes back.

Don't trust them say away from there. Have a good shop check it with a good scanner like a Snap-On not no cheapo scanner. Also if you can see if they can retrieve the first check engine light just so you will know if Midas is just trying to take your hard earned money.
Good luck! GMC
PS-Say guys what about a bad coil does the truck have coils for each plug? I'm just saying this because it happened to my buddy the other day his truck started running bad and it was a bad coil.

By all means, get a second opinion. $500 for 1 injector seems way high to me. I've never paid that for any of the diesel injectors I've bought. i cant imagine gas injectors would be that high??? Good luck.

Well, I reset the light again, and changed the spark plugs, someone at work mentioned it may be a good idea, the light hasn't returned. The plugs were black on the end and kind of old looking, maybe that was the issue.

We have a company here called rapid diesel and I order all my pump and injector parts through them. I just rebuilt a pump on a 3.3 cummins monday and for a weight kit and slides it was $600 and the injectors were $379.

Never have a muffler shop diagnose driveability issues.. typically and most always any mechanic worth a hill of beans isn't going to be found working in one of those halfassed ripoff dumps.. They don't know sheit from applebutter.

I would go to the dealer or atleast a reputable indy shop and get an actual diagnosis from someone who can spell what they diagnose.

It's not likely that you need injectors.. not impossible but not likely.
