84 Chevy Hood Hinge Installation

Can anyone tell me the secret how to work these hood hinges? The 84 that I just bought, had the hood removed. All the hing parts are there along with the bolts and springs. I want to bolt the hood back on where it goes the way it is supposed to go. The springs are off the hinges. What the trick to get those spring in the right place?

The only way I have put these back on was with a fairly large spanner wrench and a vise. Clamp your hinge in the vise and hook the spanner on the loose end of the spring. Turn it to match the photo above as to how many layers of the spring are there and slip the end down on to the catch. You have to be very careful doing it this way but it's the only way I have got these to go back on. hope it helps, and again, be very careful!!!

too bad i pitched mine or i would send 'em to ya.
i would not attempt to coil that spring. it's bad enough when i get bite by a 2 stroker recoil spring.

Yeah, I don't know why someone would take the spring off the hinge. I usually just unbolt the whole thing and take it off. Like I said, if you do attempt to recoil the spring, be extra careful.

Yeah, that is what I was afraid of semo. I thought somone might have a fancy dancy doo dad trick that works better. So I have to finish taking it off the truck. I can see how its gonna hurt if not done right. That spring is tougher than it looks, I almost had while it was on the truck with my jaws of life, but to no avail.

I think i would find some different ones. The spanner wrench I used was a large (head gland ) spanner for a large cylinder. It is really not very safe! I don't want anyone getting hurt. If I have some left I will send em to ya for the cost of shipping if you need some.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I will be able to get it. I can come up with some pretty cool ideas at time when I need to, and still be safe. I am sure I'll get it when the times comes that it is a have to have done. I was just thinking I'd like to bolt that hood on the truck. It has to come back off anyway to be repainted if I am going to use it. My mind changes about every 30 minuites what I am going to do with these trucks. Kinda crazy what I got going on now. Glad I got a huge backyard. I got room for 5 more wide too, and about 4 more deep, so I guess that means I have room for 40 trucks. 35 more to go. I hope at least one of them will be a 4x4.

Well, if ya need any hinges, gimme a hollar. Thats quite a selection you got going there. I just mowed yesterday and it's like rearranging a car lot to mow under everything. LOL. Nothing wrong with having lots of vehicles/parts trucks sitting around. I try to bring em all home myself. If you got room for 35 more, you better get busy!!!
