exhaust h-pipe/x-pipe

on a gm 1500 with 305 with cam, int., headers, and carb would an H-pipe in the exhaust help and how does that help?

its helpfull, it acts to scavenge exhaust flow bank to bank, essentially increasing effieciency (more hp) not technically speaking of course...lol

I saw, first hand, tri-Y shorty headers out perform open heads in low to medium RPMs. If it wasn't their scavenging effect then I have no idea what else it could be. There's something to scavenging for sure.

mpcross is on a distinguished road
Here is my two cents on the H,Y and x pipes exhaust configurations. I have read articles and everythin that is done from the cam out to the exhaust tip changes the exhaust pulse that is developed at the exhaust port. So the short of it is this in my humble opinion, for one pulse to push another towards the end of the exhaust pipe the H,Y or X pipe must be placed in the right location, sometimes within an inch for it to be effective at a certain RPM range. The pulse(es) moves closer or futher away from the muffler at different RPM rates and hat is where the puls tecnology gets to be a ******. The said H,Y,X non engineered cross tubes basicly balance the pressure between the two banks and if you get lucky my do some scavaging at some RPM. Putting one in probably won't hurt and just might help. I remember reading that for a small block Chevy a 11" to 14" from the exhaust flange would help a stock motor,if I rember right.
