Running lights problem. I have an 83 3/4 ton. Headlights work, running lights do not. I have replaced the headlight switch, still no lights.

sounds like you need to gain access to that switch and test it out. just because its new doesnt mean it works. being that the signals work, that rules out a ground problem. have you verified power to the bulb for the running lights??

test your current one with a test light before hand. no sense in replacing the part until it has been decided that it is in fact, no good.

It's a little late, but more background might help. Is this truck new to you and came with the problem ? Were the lights working for a long period of ownership and suddenly all fail together ? Have you done any related work or trailer wiring on it ? Since I don't know the answers to the above, I have to ask are these bulbs that are "good" the right type ? (2 filaments) Brake and turn signals share a different wiring from park lights I believe. Having the brake lights work tells you the ground is likely good, but does not tell you if park hot is getting to socket. Use a voltmeter or testlamp at socket to do quick easy check. Are the park lights at the front and dash lights also out ? I'm not sure if there is a seperate fuse for parks on that. As Brad is trying to tell you, test, don't jbust buy parts. Not only does it waste money, but it could lead to other problems getting created as you go along, making the original problem harder to find. | |

You might also check the plug in the back under the bed to be sure it's not loose. It should be on the driver's side rear of the frame inside the rails. Maybe pull it apart and clean it and put a little dielectric grease in it before putting it back together. This is also a good point to test wiring for voltage. If you have power here at the brown wire, you can isolate the problem to your light sockets or something at the very rear of the truck. May save buying a new switch.
