Talking how to fix a chevy in a parking lot

the bad ignition cylinder

the good ignition cylinder

how to remove the bad ignition cylinder. unhook battery and beat the living poo out of the ignition cylinder because it has to be in the crank position to remove. second option almost became a slide hammer.

to get the top cover off and over the ignition cylinder, cut the cover at the bottom to snake it over and off. the cut will not be visible when the bottom cover is on.

the big black box is the ignition switch which i've replaced once already.

to replace the ignition switch, you need a super duper special socket that cost $10 to get to this torx screw.

these are the only tools i needed to replace the lock cylinder. goes to show that even a glove box full of tools can get you on the road again.

i could have saved my self a lot of trouble and replaced it earlier in the comfort of my driveway if i wasn't so lazy. i knew it was bad, because i could pull the key out with it running and it was hanging up more and more when i tried to start it. fastforward to lunch and no more starting.
