96 SFI is not drive by wire. at least, not on the grandfathers. my 2000 was not drive by wire either. headache taking the wires off to remove the throttle body when the locks were broken where you could not unlock them. it was conected to the ECM but still had a TV cable. at least, i think it had a TV cable. i know it was not drive by wire.

If you must have the auto, here is the rundown:
1. 96 4l60e is a 96 only, must use 96 only,
2. You can get e wiring harness (model specific) from LMC, they are the only ones I know of that have just the harness, Plugs and color coded.
3. You will need a computer from a donor vehicle of the intended use, EX: 96 2wd 4.3 v6 AUTO TRANS
4. ALLDATA wiring schematic for your donor model vehicle, For correct wire placement.

All GM trucks from 95 up did not come with TV cables all trans were ECM controlled from various sensors such as Ignition module in Distributor, TPS, and MAP.

I am beggining to think drive by wire didn't start unitl 2003 models. I would think that or possibly 2002. My 02 Z71 Avalanche was NOT drive by wire, but my 03 Z66 Was.
