84 C10 w/ engine swap detent cable issue

Hey, after dropping a '96 crate vortec 350 w/ a 700R4 trans in the '84 the detent cable(A/T) sticks out if I do not grandfather the accel. It will suck back in if I turn the truck off and back on. The combo came out of a 73 and had roughly 2000 miles before putting in the 84. Intake is unknown but 4bbl and quadrajunk! Everytime I try to get to highway speeds or run from the cops I have to slow to 45 shut the truck off and put in nuetral or pull over to the side please help!

Maybe you should consider a differant vehicle. Not sure a 84 C10 has half a chance outrunning the cops even working correctly. Not sure I understand the problem anyway in this lingo. Maybe a better explanation I'd get it, but I forgot to take my smart pills this morning. Forgive me.

no the spring is on there even if i try to force the cable back it will not go back until i turn the engine off. the accell cable and the detent(sometimes called the overdrive) cable are on the same bracket and i can "feel" it in the pedal as it gets stuck out in what i presume is the passing gear. I checked the cable where it enters the trans(replacing 2x in the process) the guy i bought the combo(engine and trans) stated that there was a shift kit in the trans and i do not know if that could possibly have anything to do with it...

700r4 transmission has no modulator so the detent/(T/A)/overdrive cable controls the shift pattern?. I have adjusted the cable to as close as what i can tell is the best gear speed change but when i give any amount of gas the cable pulls out of the end by the carb and will not go back which makes the gears way off and it will not downshift. I am used to the 350 or 400 trans and not the 700r4 but thanks for any help or advice you can give(except to sell the 84 as it is sentimental)

It`s odd that the cable will go back as soon as you turn the motor off.
I know nothing about the 700R4 but fluid leak in the valve body?

isn't that the cable that is adjusted by stepping on the gas to the floor to adjust? you push it thru the bracket and the accelerator sets it

ok ok hold up (96 CRATE VORTEC 350) and 4bbl quad dont match up ru talking carb or tbi and it was in a 73 now an 84 i didnt think that 73 had those

HOTROD come on did u not see the super sleeper pizza truck link an 85 with a 355 700r4 and 373 posi would run just fine from the cops
