blower problem

the A/C in my 97 ext cab is ice cold (37 degrees at the vent) but the problem is the blower motor doesnt blow hard enough...i've put in a new blower motor and cleaned all the ducts, made sure the blend door is closing all the way and checked everything i can without taking the dash out...it blows but takes forever to cool the whole cab down...havent really timmed it but on a good summer day it will take 10 minutes to get the cab cool but not cold

i went for a ride in a friends truck the other day, in a 05 chevy ext cab and the a/c blew like a hurricane compared to mine (i think it has a 5 or 6 speed fan), so i'm guessing they put a bigger better blower in them ?? it took maybe 5 minutes to cool his ext cab, then we had to turn it down...does anyone know what it would take to make my blower blow like a newer silverado ?? i'm guessing i'd need the blower itself and the switch to go along with it..can it be this simple ???

i'm sure they changed the a/c box design and my old one may need some modification, but if it means my a/c cools like a newer one i'm willing to try almost anything....almost considered trading it in but i love this truck this is the only thing i dislike about it...thanks for any help that is offered

check the resistor board in behind the glove box, maybe the high speed resistor is blown only giving you the slower speeds, its a bit of a pain to get to but with a small 1/4" drive rachet and a small 5.5mm socket or 7/32???? there are two small screws holding it in, the pigtail could also have burned out.

One thing to check anyways.....

actually it may be easier to check the plug in at the motor....maybe trying to recall the blower location?.....drawing a blank, but anyways if you can check voltage going to the motor at all positions of the switch you will be able to tell if its actually geting all the juice it needs. I eould beleive full 12vs is full speed....

blower

The multi meter says 13 Volts no matter what speed the fan is on (this is at the purple wire at the blower motor)...so how hard would it be to take a blower motor and/ or switch from lets say a 99 or newer (i notice they have 5 speeds instead of 4)

i dont know what to do i'm just tired of it taking 10 minutes or so for it to cool my truck down, and dont have the $$ to take it to the a/c place and have them tell me "thats as good as it will get" and charge $100 or so dollars Am i the only one with this crazy idea ??

Pull the blower motor out and with a flashlight and mirror, check to see if the evaporator core or heater core fins are obstructed by years of condensation and dust/dirt debris. If so, that will limit the CFM throughout the entire HVAC system. You can clean it out with a spray bottle with mild soapy water and compressed air.... Be sure to clean out the HVAC box vent tube of any buildup afterwards too.. or you'll have condensation build up during A/C operation.. ultimately ruining the motor, resistor or at minimum a water leak in the interior.
