I hate to bring up an old subject, but my 93 Chevy G20 van has a problem very much like hotrodpc described with a slight difference, mine will give a roar at about 55-60 mph and it only does this roar when I apply just a little more throttle, if I jam the accelerator on down to the floor it won't roar until it gets back beteen 55-60 mph.
Sound like the TCC????

Not so much. When the Torque Converter goes, it will usually be noisy most of time, and its usually a screeching, clanking type noise, and when the TCC goes you get the vibration. In the case above, the Converter itself is probably still functioning almost as it should, but the TCC for the lock up is whats gone bad inside the converter, still requiring a Converter replacment. I can not think if what this roar would be the transmission.

Well thanks for the reply just the same HRPC,no one else that I have talked with or has driven the van can figure it out either so don't feel bad.
The last guy I talked with said "****, just drive it and you'll know what it is when it flys apart", I would rather not have that happen, I have grown attached to the old thing and so has my wife, it came with a 4.3 V-6 and gets pretty fair milage on the highway, so I gota get it fixed.

Something else that can cause a violent shuddering/shaking under acceleration is plug wires.

Also the 700R4 needs to have the throttle valve cable adjusted properly or trans damage can occur.

I's not so much a shaking as it is just a roaring noise, and is a 700R4 the same as a 4L60E?, also the throttle valve cable, do you know where it is and how to adjust it?

Good Morning Crazy !!! WTH are we doing up this early? A 700r4 is same as a 4L60, not the E though. 4L60 is just the new name for the 700r4, but the E on the end of it means Electronic which is computer controlled. An E model does not have the TV Cable, it uses the computer and does not need the TV cable. The TV cable come off the passenger side of the trans over the bell housing and connects to the throttle linkage at the carb or throttle body. The TV cable out of adjustment is not going to cause violant shaking. An out of adjustmnet TV cable, will have fluid pressures to low for the load put on the trans and burn up clutches in most cases.

Sorry it took soooo long to reply, my wife came in and she likes to look at the on line newspapers in our area first thing right off the reel, so with that behind me I can regain control.
Back to the issue at hand, I was told that the E model first appeared on the scene in 93 and that's the year my van is.
I wouldn't know an E model from a Z model, but like I said previously I never hear the noise until the van is settled into O/D and I press gently on the gas pedal then and only then does the noise begin, if I stab the gas pedal, no noise, until it settles down to steady cruise and I attempt to press on the gas pedal then the noise appears again.
Have a great 5TH,
CH357

No, as a matter of fact I'm not absolutely sure where it's coming from, a few months back I had a problem with the starter making a "pinging" sound when I released the ignition switch from the start position.
So, I took it to a mechanic and he said that some of the flywheel bolts had backed out/loosened, so he loctited, tightened and reassembled.
I took it to him because of the 55-60 noise and that's what he found, $150 bucks later, it's still making the same noise.
