| AC Compressor H6OR, H6SW, or A6 ??? On my 86 C20 454 truck, I have an AC comprssor on it without a belt. It does not appear to be seized or anything like. But it has a wierd looking differant type of compressor that I am not used to seeing like those nasty pancake type. I understand this is to be a H6 OR or a H6 SW. How do I know the differance between the 2? Also, How does that compare to an H6 compressor? Which is best the A6 or the H6? I am likely going to convert this system to 134a, so I'd like to know the good stuff before I go thru the motions and spend the bucks. It is currently the factory installed AC system, and all is in tact. The compressor did not have any wires going to it. I found it and hooked it up, but it does not seem to be sending power to the clutch. Maybe a fuse or something minor.

| I would suggest you go to some of the parts websites, they usually have good pics of the various compressors. Maybe www.jegs.com or www.rockauto.com and as for the power to the compressor clutch my guess would be that the system is low on freon and so the low pressure switch is open. |

| Ahhhh, so it will not even have power unless there is freon in it? So I could test the clutch with a hot wire then instead of expecting the AC power plug to have power? I just wanted to test the clutch to see if it worked and start with the basics. I did not want to pay $59.95 for a service to be told a $359 compressor was bad. Mine shows to be one of the H6 compressors. The A6 is much cheaper, so I was considering converting to the A6 if its a better system. I am just happy its not one of the pancake type. This is one is fairly big in comparison and I had been told the pancake type are junk.

| If the system is below something like 34lbs pressure no power will go to the clutch. You can test the clutch with the engine not running by doing what you said. If you want to test the system with engine running you can jump the low pressure switch for a short time. However before you do that make sure that the compressor can be turned over by hand (the center bit of the clutch). |

| I am sure its out of freon. They rebuilt the motor and disconnected the lines and let the freon go. Real Pros ehhhh??? But I just wanted to be sure the compressor and clutch were likely functional before I even got a wild hair to hook up a belt and take it to the shop to get freon put in it and leak tested. I know lots of things about cars, but AC is not one of them. I know a little but not enough. Thanks for the help guys. IF anyone knows which compressor better, let me know. IF mine is junk, I may go with the A6 cuz its much cheaper, and I think those are better anyway. Not positive since I am not aware of the H6 at all.
