2000 5.7 vortec missing

I bought a 2000 chevy K3500 with the 5.7 169,000 miles.

It was missing/shuddering while under light load or cruise conditions but seemed to clear up when under hard acceleration. No codes present or history. Trans fluid is perfect, oil is good, antifreeze good, fuel pressure is OK, no sign of intake leak.

Replaced cap, rotor, wires, plugs, fuel filter, air filter. Still the same.

Decided to move the dist some to see if that would help. Turning it as far as possible counterclockwise cleared up the problem but made me think that there was a mechanical timing issue.

Pulled the distributor out and looked at the gear... damned gear is worn bad. Replaced the gear and problems are gone.

Just thought I would share this in case others have a similar issue.
