| If your lucky the crank is not chewed up to the point it can not be turned. Some say to replace the rods, but if they are not very bad, you can have the big ends resized, checked true and twist at a machine shop. Becasue you do not know exactly what caused the bearing failure I would also replace the rod bolts. And all depends on the cost. If rods are cheap enough, get new ones. I think a machine will cost about $10 a rod for resizing, shot peening, check for true and twist. Bummer, one on each bank, so both heads gotta come off. If it were me, I'd probably go ahead and replace all the rod bearings while you had the pan off, and depending on the mileage maybe the mains too, along with rear main seal, but then you are talking about alot more labor, although the parts will not be much. Well, come to think of it, you are taking the crank out anyway to get it checked and turned. Go for it. All new main and rod bearings, rear main seal. Heads are off, may as well do rings too with a ball hone to the cylinders. Basically an inframe rebuild as the big trucks would call it.

| Oh good. So you have easy access then to do it right. For rering job, I like to use both if both are available. The 3 fingered stone hone is normally reffered to as a glaze breaker and can clean the cylinder up nicely much quicker than just the ball hone alone, but I still use a ball hone to leave a nice cross hatch pattern in the cylinder and the rings should seat better and quicker.
