Question Gas to Diesel

I have a 1989 Chevy 1500. During some recent work the engine fell off the hoist resulting in substantial damage. I would prefer to replace the engine rather then rebuild as i was already having plenty of problems with it. I have a 6.2L diesel engine from the same year make and model on hand but dont know what is involved in this conversion. Is it a simple engine swap or is there much more that needs to be done?

the conversion would be easier if the doner truck was there with all the parts! but still time consuming for a questionable engine. go to goodwrench and pick up a target it would be quicker and in the end I think you will be happier

6.2l is NOT worth it, IMO, trade it for/or find another 350 man, save yourselve the hassle.

Hey bud, sit this one out, ok?

The 6.2L is a great engine, but as Stump stated, its not a power house. It was more for fuel economy then performance. To be able to answer your swap question I need more info, what transmission do you currently have? And is it a 2WD or a 4X4?

Yeah i agree with merlin5577, the 350 is a good engine and the 6.2L diesel is also a good engine but only if you have a chip for it. So if yr willing to buy a $500 chip for the diesel to get max power then go for it. But if you really want a diesel then let me suggest a Dodge Cummins. It provides a lot of power with out a chip. (I forget the liter size but i know its big) Good Luck!

I dont have the money for a new truck i just need a strong fuel friendly diesel. and the transmission is a 4x4 to answer Merlin.

Sorry leo, but I disagree. The has the DB2 injection pump that was used for years in numerous applications. It is a tried an true system.

This makes no sense. Is the transmissions an automatic or a manual? If automatic does it have 3 forward gears or 4 forward gears?
