93 Chevy starting problems Hello, new to the site. I have a 93 Chevy 4X4 with a 5.7l engine. Truck has 216,000 miles but a new motor was put in about 60,000 miles ago. For the past month I been having a problem with it starting. It will start one day just fine and may not the next. When it don't start it will turn over. Started to suspect the fuel pump going bad even though you can hear it running when the key is on. Plugs, Dist. cap and fuel filter has been changed. Here's the weird thing: Three times when it would not start I pulled a plug to check for spark. Upon pulling the plug and turning the engine over the truck starts. This past Friday it would not start. I tried it everyday and nothing. Today,(Mon.) I pulled the plug to try to check for spark and it started right up. Everybody I told about this don't have a clue what it could be. Anybody have any suggestions on where to start?

Welcome to the forum and howdy from TEXAS. That's strange on how you get it to start I have never heard of that. But im thinking with that many miles if the fuel pump is OEM you might check the fuel pressure because it might be low but still turning on when it gets enough gas. I just replaced mine on my 1993 truck it had 167,000 miles on it also if you buy a pump I would buy a Delphi pump I have heard that other brands don't last long and of coarse get the strainer as well. I bought mine at O'Rielly's for the total cost of $98.00 dollars and change.

3 out of the 5 times it has not started, it started immiedately after pulling a plug. One time it started up a few minutes after, and the other time it started up the next day. If I do a fuel pressure check what reading should I get? Thanks for all the help.

Almost forgot to mention, once the truck does start, it can be started and driven all day with no problems. Usually when it does not start, it is when it has been sitting overnight.
