New Project 85 Fo Buh Fo

I have bought this tonight and go pick it up tomorrow. Finally, I found a 4x4 with clear title for my kinda price for a project. Its not a 3/4 ton which would have been my preferance, but on the bright side, 1/2 parts are sure alot cheaper. Ad says its 84, but it is an 85. Originally had 350/T350 and I do know what Xfer case it had.

No, don't take that bet. My finances are in bad shape right now. Funds will keep me from getting it running quickly. I would not have even bought this, but as long as I have been looking for a 4x4 chassis, I am not passing it up. It will have to sit a bit for certain. I will likely sell off some of the 2x4 stuff I have now though. This one to the collection will give me 6 of these trucks now.

Yep, finally. Now I just need to sell off some of the 6 trucks, make more room, get my projects narrowed down and do what I can as finances become available. I just want 3 trucks. The 84 3/4 ton that is now running and driving for towing and going to the scrap yard. This 4x4, and the Steet/Strip Hi Po Olds 455 truck. That one will be named ChevrOldsLet. What I need to do, is take the parts I am going to use off the truck I am not going to use, and start selling them off. That will help with the finances too. Where I am stuck is, for the ChevrOldslet Street/Strip truck, I can either use my other nice 3/4 ton chassis or one of my 1/2 ton chassis. Not sure which way to go for sure as of yet. The smart choice to race would be the lighter, lower to the ground 1/2 ton. Also less expensive for suspension and brake parts. But I like the strength of the 3/4 drivetrain and I won't be breaking it. The 80 GMC will be one to go and parted out. So I will have the 84 3/4 ton 2x4, this 85 1/2 4x4 and then the ChevrOldslet will be registered as an 81 Chev 1/2 ton 2x4, just not sure if its going to be on the 1/2 chassis the cab is on now, or if I am moving it to the 86 3/4 ton chassis. At least I have made up my mind on the year models. All are going to be 81-87 body style and away from the slopped dash and 1 piece hood/cowl that bend the hood.

Yours looks like fun Mr JW. Don't have to worry about scratching it either. Sometimes on the 4x4's it not wise to spend a fortune in a nice high dollar paint job. My biggest concern would be just be able to keep the rust to a minumum.

So after reading my own thread, 79 Chev 3/4 ton Transfer Case . And the advice of Mr JW in that thread, it looks like I will be looking for a NP 205 Xfer case and an output shaft for a T400. I have plenty of T400's and T350's for that matter, but I think that pretty much makes up my mind on that to go 400 since the adapters are more plentiful. Now I just have to figure out which one of my engines I want to put in it. Being I am going to go Turbo 400, I can go with one of my Pontiac 400's, Chev SB 350 or I could use the Olds 455 too and keep it fairly stock and lots of low end torque. I am leaving the fo fitty fo in the 3/4 2x4 so its not avaiable for use on this project. Any ideas or suggestions on drivetrain for this one??? I am not sure what gear is in this truck yet. I am hoping for 3.5X or 3.7X. Doesn't really matter becasue whatever its got I am going to run it. I wanta climps hills and get muddy. Its not gonna be a rock crawler. I am not into that.

I got it home. Haven't done anything to it. Don't know the gear ratio since the RPO codes are not in the glove box. I did find out it used to be a 6.2 Diesel truck, and was converted to Gas Chev 350 long ago. This guy I bought it from took the engine, trans, Xfer case and front driveline. Othewise its complete. Radiator, Rear Driveline, crossmemeber, hood, etc was in the back of it. I was actually expecting it to be in worse shape for $200.
