thermostat?

the chip i am getting requires a 180 degree thermostat, i am wondering since the one if have now is 187 if that 7 degrees will make much of a differance if so what will it do? i

in order to purchace the 180 i have to use the chips website i cannot find it anywhere else, but i did find a 160 but that might be too low since winter is coming.

Any help would be greatly appreciated Jon

What kind of chip is it? I would assume they have required a certain tstat after doing the research to know that engine performs where it needs to with that chip. I know newer engines are really sensitive to how every little aspect affects it. Believe it or not but how cool the engine runs plays a huge deal in fuel economy. Maybe that's the reason the chip needs it so it can run the parameters it needs.

it is a jet stage 2 chip it requires, open flow exhaust, the thermostat and it is supposed to be run on 91 octane.

So did you test your tstat to find out when it really opens,
generally not super accurate. You might have a 180.

I have a 160' stat on my truck because of my chip and I have seen on a hot day if I didn't have that stat stuck in traffic my truck would have over heated I would get the right stat I have also heard that one can get a 170' stat so you truck will still run good but not use too much gas. Plus a Jet stat shouldn't be that much if you can get one from them the s/h should be dirt cheap but I would call www.Summitracing.com.

Curious what would be a benefit to run a 160* in AZ during winter.

I really don't know about that but like I wrote you can get a 170' stat and it shouldn't affect your gas mileage.
