| axles.... muah! long time no postings! i have the opportunity to nab a 79 4x4 3/4 350 w/350t for $500, possibly cheaper if i do some work for the guy. My question is, are the older 3/4ton axles FF? if they are, i'll nab it in a heart beat. 2nd question, will a 472 caddy bolt to a 350t? What about a manual gear box? for a 350t i think it will except 1 bolt wont line up, top i beleive....if i remember my dad mentioned someone did that and he drove the sh!t out of it and never had a problem... i need something stout to pull a 5th wheel triaxle that i plan on putting a dump hoist on...anywhere in the 15k to 25k # range.... Would it be worth my trouble it put in a set of dually axles? What am i going to be looking for work to put in a 4sp granny or a 5sp and keep the transfer case? help is appreciated. |

| your 5th wheel plan needs a 1 ton minimum, dually would be better as for the 79 got any pics? is the question full floating or full front axle?

| no pics yet. sometime next weekend i plan on looking at it. I visited and vaguely remember it. the box is gone, aluminum stake bed, and the body wasn't in terrible condition, as nasty rust spots or dents would of caught my eye. At the time nothing was mentioned about him letting it go, as now i have notice of this i need to invistigate it. the way i understood it 3/4's are semi and 1 tons are ff.... my dad mentioned the 'older' 3/4's and 1tons are both full floating bearings...with the 1 tons having larger brakes....i need correction on this... if the 3/4's are ff, then i'm not going to bother with 1 ton axles...and buy it quicker then stink on **** the 350 is tired so he says, i have a rebuilt 350, but, i figured i'd go for the gold and stuff in that 472 caddy. Yet at the same time i'd be happier with a manual gear box, and all i have around are the granny gear 4 speeds. That wouldn't bother me, but i think i'm gonig to run into problems with the transfer case bolting to the trans, and trying to find a bell housing for a 472 caddy to bolt to a manual, and then the ultimate...a flywheel that'll fit a caddy crank...again, correct me if i'm wrong... |
