"Check for pressure" is the first way that comes to mind.

If the guys who design 'em had to take one home, use it every day for 2 years, and do all the maint and repairs themselves, cars would have a button on the dash to change the oil, filters & plugs.

loosen the fuel line, and turn the key on....but don't smoke!
just because the pump is not running does not mean it is bad. run a bypass power to it, it may be a bad wire or ground

checked it with the key on and u can hear it. sometimes it will get gas and start and sometimes it will stop getting gas

listen for pump. if hear it, rent a pressure checker. TBI requires a certain pressure to fire the injectors so the pump may be weak. if good there, you can rule out a bad pump.

mine did same thing, so new sender, new pump, new tank, and the biggie $$ new GM lines to front of truck ( all 3)
Hope you dont live where theres rust...
OH and the repop tanks do not have any baffles, so you can get gas guage activity on corners like a tachometer LOL
