Engine noise / faliure ?

The truck is a 93 silverado ext cab 1500 so it has the 350v8
for the last couple of weeks it has been making a knocking sound at idle and goes away when I start accelerating ,but it doesn't always make the sound at idle, but for the most part its usally there or really faint.

Some days it makes no noise at all so it has me confused about if the engine is going bad or what is going on.The oil pressure seems to be fine, its lower when at idle but every truck with a guage I have seen its lower at idle, then under accelerations its up around 60 somewhere.

Just needing some advice/input on what to do here, or if there is anything to do besides look for another engine.

I would take a PVC pipe or a wood stick and place it on where the sound is coming from now on the other end of the PVC pipe place it to your ear move it to different spots till you find where the sound is coming from the sound will travel though the pipe/stick so that you can hear it better. My truck is the same year as yours and my idler pulley went out not long ago there less than $25.00 dollars. Remember safety is always first.

Just a lil update to this post, I did what you suggested and I still could not pinpoint where the sound was exactly.Actually it had stopped making the noise for about a week then started again, so I just havnt been driving it unless I really needed to.

Well yesterday I left for work and got maybe 3 minutes down the road and heard some weird loud ting noise and the motor just started to rev and not go so pulled off into parking lot and shut it off.Tryed to start it back up and everything turned over fine but could hear a slight grinding ugly noise as it was turning over but not start, only tried that once havnt messed with it since as its still in the lot.

What would cause this issue of not being able to go and not start ? Torque converter maybe ? missing teeth ? Need some feedback on this please.

I agree. Flexplate sopund like it would be a prime suspect here.

So either way I have to slide the tranny back to find out.
Can you see the flex plate thru the bottom dust cover, prolly not good enough I guess? Once I make room in the garage I'll break out the chilton and get checkin things out. Thanks for the replys seems like thats going to be the problem.

Pulling the dust cover would allow you to see it, and still use the starter to "bump" it a little (pull the coil wire to prevent it from starting).

Yea I'll pull the dust cover and try to tell from there, and no need to pull the coil wire cause it wont start up anymore but I still will to be safe.

If I can't tell from there Ill pull the starter.Any tips/suggestions on sliding the tranny back would be helpfull if/when the time comes, hopefully I can have it back on the road soon.
