Muffler suggestion - 91 silver k1500.

Time for a new muffler. Looking for something that sounds good but not real loud. Engine = 350. Tranny = auto. Something in the economy price range that I might pruchase at an auto parts store. Suggestions??

Thank you
JBB

take your muffler to advance or autozone , they usually carry universal mufflers they can match to to yours and are a lot cheaper than a direct fit replacement .

what you want is a cat back VORTEX exhaust set up. VORTEX makes the pipes as well, so no messing around its bolt up, its dual out , it sounds great but not too loud, improves gas mileage . see pic. can order online or Jc Whitney, or some parts stores, its a rugger muffler, steel welded.
pic is a single out, but the truck one you want is dual out

I have a magnaflow high flow cat and a flowmaster 40series 150 for the install and muffler 75 for the cat. AT least where my shop is. check my thread Exhaust that's what it sounds like. I do have 3" back from the y-pipe. Soon I want true duals though.

Friends,
Thank you for the muffler advice. I've listened sound clips of several makes. I think I will end up with a thrush. They seem to be reasonably priced and a name that I recall from way back when. I have many improvements to make on this old truck so I need to economize where I can.
