97 C2500 Rough Idle/Vibrating at acceleration under 2k RPM+Gas Ground Help ! NO 56K

Hi everyone - new to this truck and to the forum! I've been reading and hopefully learning a lot over the past couple of days from the forum and need some advice..

Background - 1997 C2500HD 2WD 185k miles

Purchased with check engine light on - error was running lean, and oxygen sensor. So I replaced both oxygen sensors after the cat - drove for awhile - and the light went away.. but still runs rough under 2k rpm.

The truck idles rough, and under acceleration under 2k rpm it is rough. If I press down on the gas and it downshifts and bumps the rpms - it runs fine..

I have changed the following so far:
Spark Plugs
Wires Cap & Rotor
Air Filter (K&N)
Changed Oil & Filter
Fuel Filter
+ Fuel Injector Cleaner

I'm thinking about checking the Mass airflow sensor now. Other ideas I picked up where cam sensor and crankshaft sensor I think.. and maybe the fuel pressure regulator..

But I read somewhere lastnight and I havent been able to find it again - that it could be a bad ground on the fuel tank/neck - WELL I just realized that I did have a dangling ground wire under there - so I took a pic.. I dont know where to re-attach the other end of this strap? Its got a chunk of rusted metal on it and I dont think I could re-attach it, so I might have to replace a part, but can;t figure out which one..

Any ideas on the rough idle - and if anyone could take a quick pic of their ground strap connected that would be great!! Is this dangerous ? Do you think it could cause the engine issues ?

I forgot to mention - its a 5.7L , and here is a pic of the engine..

Another thought could be a vacuum leak? Im not sure how to check for one - a guy at autozone said to spray some carb cleaner around the engine to check for leaks, but what would I look for exactly?

Still no fix - Guess I need to bring to a shop..

Just thought I would update - I tried seafoam - no change, and I checked the EGR valve - no problems there, also checked entire engine for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner - no leaks... hmmmmm ?

Also MAF Sensor appears to be sparkling clean... still rough at any speed mostly around 1500 rpm..

Running lean. My first thought would be fuel filter but you replaced that. Second thought would be weak fuel pump. Possibly because of no ground wire? Have you checked the fuel pressure?
Hopefully some of the EFI experts will give an opinion soon.

Fuel Ground / Fuel Lines / Venting hose bent ?

I took some shots with my camera this morning to look for areas to reground - and to my surprise I think this kinked hose is not good! Looks like a bunch of hoses might need replacing.. this is not a job I feel safe doing.. do you agree that this might be the source of the poor idle and rough acceleration at every speed under 2k ?

The kinked hose looks like a tank breather, unlikely to be the cause of your problem.
I noticed you have a K&N air filter, these can sometimes contaminate the MAF sensor. Might be an idea to get a can of MAF sensor cleaner and give it a clean. Do not use compressed air.
Might also be worth doing a compression check.
Do you have a code reader, it would be nice to check the codes again. Even better if a scanner could be put on it.

Did you install the fuel filter correctly I think they have only one way for flow.

SCAN DATA Anyone want to review ? Thanks!!!

Fuel filter is installed correctly..
Mass Airflow is clear and looks good - K&N was installed after systems existed.. did lots of checks for vacuum leak to no avail.. going to replace an egr gasket now as the old one was crumbled and about half the thickness it should be - so it may be it..

I got a scan tool - Autel MS509 - recorded some data, not sure what to make of it, been learning and reading up on the data quite a bit.. but maybe theres something in there that is obvious to those with experience in repairing/working on chevy's..

RECORDED LIVE DATA Various RPMS While Driving - Analysis ?

Here is some live data I recorded after I had driven the truck for about an hour.. I took off heading up an incline, wide open throttle approaching 70mph.. Its funny - spending hours reading through the forum and so many people ask for people to scan and post data but no one appears to do so!! So I have some data - maybe someone else can post some data from there truck that is similiar ? 97 5.7L ? to compare ?

One suspicious item in here is the "O2B2S2(V)" seems to be quite low.. so I will check for bad grounds possibly...

Another item I'm curious about is the timing.., the SPARKADV reading from the scanner - can someone tell me what that is ? Is it the timing? Service manuals say the scanner should read timing at +/- 2' - but I cant find any reference to the SPARKADV ?

Can anyone tell me why one bank is --% on fuel trim and another is ++% on fuel trim ? I know there are lots of issues with these sequential injectors.. thinking about upgrading to MFI ...

bank 2 sensor 2 is your post cat sensor. i would have to see the pre and post on a graph to have any idea on what is going on with it. it should be close to a flat line if your cat is working properly.

as for your banks of the engine being different, it could be anything. lazy o2 sensor, injectors, valves, you name it. all that data is nice, but i'm used to looking at it on the scanner. maybe NCRoadracer will chime in on the scanner data.

almost forgot, the spark advance will change as you're driving. the more you're into the gas the more advanced your timing will be and vice versa(computer controlled). parked at 2000rpm your CAM RETARD should be at 0*+-

i'll try to dig up some screen shots from my truck one of these days for ya.
