| Bad oil pump? I have a 05 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with 50K miles. I had the oil changed on Saturday and this morning while driving to work the oil pressure went down to zero and the engine started making a "knocking" sound. I had it towed back to the place where they changed the oil and the mechanic there told me that he's 100% sure it's the oil pump. He also said that this is a common problem for these engines and the at he has replaced quite a bit of them. He told me he would have to replace the oil pump and the lifters. Has anybody had an issue with these oil pumps? Is it a common problem? I would appreciate any feedback thanks. |

| What's the warranty situation on the vehicle? I would think that being only 4 years old and with only 50k on the clock the problem might be covered under warranty.

| Only two things I saw related: If oil pressure had been previously observed at a much higher value, then a leaky oil pump pickup screen O-Ring may be leaking. . ![]() |

| If it was fine before the oil change then I would suspect something at the shop, just because the oil pump goes bad does not mean the lifters are bad, do you have somewhere else you can take it? for a second opinion? don't you have a 5yr 100,00mi warranty

| Well I took it to another shop they say it's definitely the oil pump. But there is no way to prove the service shop did anything wrong. |
