Square357 is on a distinguished road
Unhappy

Kind of having what looks like the begining of the same problem with Truck (same year and motor). Gonna go threw the filter and try the cleaner.

Tripower428 do you ever have darker smoke?
Ever had service engine light come on?

put a new fuel lift pump on today, still has the same issue as far as the "shutter", But have not gotten it to stall after warm yet. Still testing to see if this had any affect.

Square357, Yes, I do also have darker smoke as well, nothing like the big white cloud when first started.
And yes I do also get a check engine light, but when I shut off the truck and restart it, no check engine light. When I get the check engine light it is always when I am on the freeway and higher speeds 70 +, the truck seems to run ok, I just get the light then after I shut if off, light goes away

By the way, ran through the tank of fuel with the diesel injector cleaner in it and don't notice anything different.

I did check the code, it says a "gear ratio problem". I just don't know how that relates to the issues I have.

is it code 86?? 86 code "low ratio error" if so here is a borrowed post on a 95

"Try r&r'ing the two speed sensor connectors on the transmission, driver's side - each is a two-conductor plug. Has to do with engine input speed vs output shaft speed, and may be intermittent connection"

Why have a water seperator if you can have a "fuel manager" ?
Chev's term not mine. Mounted on the rear of intake manifold.
Busy filter: 2 stage fuel filter, water sep, water detect, water drain,
and fuel heater. 3 fittings: in from lift, out to inj, third to drain valve
on thermo housing.

if I keep the block heater plugged in, it starts really easy and I don't get the white cloud
worth checking anyways.

To drain water from "manager"/seperator put a catcher under drain hose.
Open drain valve, then start and run 1-2 min or until clear fuel seen.
Close drain valve and stop eng.

Didn't mention if "water" light, aka "service fuel", comes on at key/bulb check.
Sometimes that sensor gets stubborn about going off and needs
to be removed and tip wiped clean.

Don't think it would have been a 86-lo or 87-hi because those would stick it in 2nd gear.
An 85-undefined ratio would block TCC though without forcing 2nd.

Still have the hard start and "shutter" issue but the check engine issue has been fixed.
It was a couple issues.
1) replaced transmission speed sensor.
2) replaced turbo waste gate solenoid.
One part at a time.....
