94 S-10 brake locked up

I have a 94 S-10 4X4 V6. The front brake is locked up on the right side. It will turn when driving on the driveway, but if you take your foot off the gas, it stops almost immediately.

I took the wheel off and tried to turn it by putting the lug wrench between the lugs. No dice. I put a C-clamp on the back of the piston and the screw on the outside pad. No dice.

I don't know much about brakes but am more than willing to try.

Thanks.

i dont think thatd do anything youll prob have to take the caliper mounting bolts off(backside of calipers) just unscrew them till you can pull the screws out a little and hang it from a bungy cord, dont just let it hang from the line. and try turning the rotors yourself and see whats causing it to jam.

the caliper mounting bolts are usually torx head and theres 2. you might have to hammer the bit in because the rust on the screw.

What he says. However I would suspect a bad flexi brake hose. Open the bleed screw on that caliper, if the wheel then turns then the hose is bad.

Tried that

I bled the brake at that wheel. I had my wife put pressure on the pedal and opened the bleeder. I got brake fluid, so I did it twice more.

No help.

I guess my next step is to take off the caliper and see if I can figure it out from there.

Thanks

Then sxe is right on the money. Remove the two slider pin bolts and use a pry bar to lever the caliper off the rotor. The pads will probably come with it. Then use the C clamp to press the caliper piston back in. the piston may be sticking or the slider pins may be sticking or as suggested something else may be holding the rotor. You will see when you get the caliper off.

No, you don't want pressure on the brake pedal when you open the bleeder in this case. It's not the same as when you're bleeding the brakes - what you're trying to do here is just relieve the pressure so the caliper will retract.

We suspect that you have a collapsed brake hose on that wheel (pretty common) and that it's preventing fluid from flowing back to the master, keeping the caliper extended and the brake "on". By opening the bleeder you then allow that pressure to bleed off and free the rotor. If that works then you know for sure that the problem is with the hose. If it doesn't work, then the problem is probably a frozen caliper.

Calipers?

OK, guys, I got the caliper off and removed the brake pads. I think the caliper is shot. Are they easy to rebuild or would I be better off to get a rebuilt? They are about $16 plus core at Auto Zone.

Yep, it's dead. Swap both of them for new or rebuilds.

And consider changing both front brake hoses at the same time.
