| there should be a flat spot on the top of the shaft you can grab to tighten the nut to keep the shaft from turning.

| thanks, I was hoping to find a torque setting in Haynes book but they gave almost no info. I will run it down to the bottom. I called a repair shop here, they wanted $500 to install all four. I think the fact that more people are holding onto their used cars (not buying new cars) the repair guys are ******* up the labor costs. thanks again for the quick come back. | Read the instructions that came with the shocks and most likely you'll find that they say to tighten down until the bushing diameter equals the washer diameter, and no further.

| Agreed you crush that bushing beyond what it is meant to be at, you'll prematurely cause it to fail and you'll have a knocking sound coming from underneath every time you hit a bump or jounce the suspension.

| shocks are in Thanks to all, I appreciate each response. I ended up using a kind of combination of a couple of ideas I heard today. One mechanic said to put 15 lb pounds of torque. Another said to sqeeze the rubber until it is the same diameter as the upper washer. I will keep an eye on it as I don't that I came up with the right answer. |
